Rockstar: GTA VI already has 45 years worth of ideas lined up

When a developer manages to create a successful franchise, typically shipping a game in the series means the team immediately turns its attention to the next game, or splits into two to handle DLC development and think about the next game simultaneously.
In the case of Rockstar, when GTA IV was entering its final stages back in 2008, their attention turned to GTA V before the IV even shipped. The game was then planned out for two years before full production ramped up in 2011. But with GTA V shipping things are a little different going forward, and it’s all because ofGrand Theft Auto Online.
GTA VThere’s definitely going to be a GTA VI as gamers will demand it, but work on that game hasn’t even been thought about yet. During an interview with Develop, Rockstar’s studio president Leslie Benzies claims they’ve already got “45 years worth of ideas we want to do” for GTA VI. They will have to wait though.
GTA Online and GTA V DLC are taking the whole focus for the foreseeable future. Producing content for what is effectively anMMO version of the game does take a full team, and with millions of players logging into the servers, Rockstar will be supporting it for quite a while.
It seems likely we’ll be waiting at least another five years for GTA VI to arrive, which will be midway through the PS4 and Xbox Onelife cycles. That’s no bad thing, as Rockstar will by then have got to grips with the hardware, and possibly even re-released GTA Vin next-gen form as many expect. They’d be silly not to do that alongside a PC release, right?
